About ESINET

Growing economies need innovation. Many of the best industrial innovations are developed into new products by small companies. These companies keep industry development going and boost economic growth by providing new jobs and technology. Therefore this development should be nurtured and made as effective as possible.

In Europe, the potential to create new business opportunities thanks to space technologies and infrastructures is impressive: every year billions of Euro are spent by industries, research organisations and academic institutions for Research and Development activities. Just concerning the space sector, Europe has invested to date more than 150 Billions of Euro.

ESINET is the European network of space incubators. Its primary mission is to support its members in stimulating entrepreneurship through a direct access to space technologies and infrastructures. ESINET currently links more than 30 members from 15 European Countries.

What are the ESINET objectives?
  • Promote the use of Space technology and services as a source of innovation for the creation of new enterprises
  • Facilitate technology transfer between the Space and non-Space sectors
  • Establish strategic transnational partnerships and networks among incubators and SMEs such as joint participation in EU research projects
  • Help start-up enterprises to have access to finance, advice them on IPR and legal matters, on networking and marketing opportunities
  • Form a critical mass in order to gain visibility in order, for example, to attract the interest of private investors or associations of private investors
  • Improve the dialog of entrepreneurs with the European Commission and the European Space Agency as well as with national and regional bodies

Moreover, SMEs have the possibility to exit their regional environment, thus creating contacts and partnerships with other SME of different European Countries.
Exchange of best practice and space technology transfer know-how
  • SMEs and start-up Companies are able to rely on the ten-year experience of the Technology Transfer Network: the European consortium active in Technology Transfer on behalf of ESA relies on the ESINET as a gateway to access SME, in order to propose to them innovative technological solutions developed in the Space research sector.
ESTEC's Laboratories
  • The ESINET members offer to Start-up and SMEs the unique opportunity to rely on all technical facilities of the ESTEC laboratories. Within a co-incubation period, incubatees of the ESINET members are able to transfer to ESTEC possible research activities which need particular skills and technical knowledge.
